Aquamarine, is a member of the beryl family. The word aquamarine is derived from the Latin word for sea-water because the colors can range from light green-blue to blue. Although aquamarine can be easily confused with blue topaz, it is much more scarce and valuable. Aquamarine is tough enough to used as a ring or pendant center stone.

Color varieties of beryl include Emerald (Green), Aquamarine (Blue Green), Morganite (Pink, Yellow Orange), Goshenite (Colorless) and Heliodor (Golden Beryl). This crystallizes in hexagonal system as prismatic Crystals. Sometimes vertically striated and sometimes terminated by small pyramid faces. The color may be Blue to Green. In ancient times beryls "The color of the sea" were considered the most desirable, but todays fashion, demands the deeper blue stones.
